Little bun’s first book series

Lately, I’ve been sharing our Chinese character recognition and reading journey in Chinese on Threads. Some friends have reached out, asking where to buy Sagebook—which feels like a lifetime ago when I was debating whether to get the whole set and wondering if the curriculum would work. Fast forward three years, and I’m so happy to see my little one become an independent bridge book reader.

One of her favorite series is 露露和菈菈, about two girls who open a bakery and learn to make different pastries through stories and requests from their community. The stories are heartwarming and easy to read, perfect for my daughter, who loves pretend play, cute animals, and all things adorable. The picture-to-text ratio is about 50/50, with some pages featuring recipes that I don’t expect her to read in detail.

She used to read just one chapter at a time, but now she finishes a whole book in about 20 minutes. We started with the first five books, then got the next five, and recently picked up books 11–25—we’re almost through them!

It’s so rewarding to see her first favorite reading series be in Chinese.
