Bao & Bun's Bilingual Journey

Here are some quick summer updates.

The twins are loosely following the schedule I originally planned for the summer. Both kids have learned around 40 characters in a month. However, I’ve been getting tired and lazy, so I’m not keeping up with the practice. I hope we can squeeze in another 40 characters before summer ends.

One thing to note is that the characters Little Bun is learning now have more advanced meanings, and it‘s challenging to find phrases she understands. It’s really just pure memorization at this point. I hope she‘ll come to understand those phrases through reading or seeing them used in media.

Little Bao likes the karaoke class but loves the Rubik’s Cube class even more. I signed him up for four more Rubik’s Cube Chinese classes.

Little Bun enjoys her Chinese art classes. I really appreciate how much the teacher encourages creativity and provides flexibility in her teaching.

Chinese lessons & Reading

Little Bun has way more Chinese homework from her tutor, so she’s doing less reading. Bridge books are still tough for her, but she’s doing more quiet reading on her own.

Little Bao’s 亮亮 reading is still bumpy but at least he’s not scared to read Chinese books anymore. He’s even tempted to read other picture books but the one he picked has way more words and very small fonts so he gave up reading it after a page. We went back to read 亮亮 that night. Basically he still needs lots of practice for his zhuyin blending skills and get faster and more accurate with the correct tones.
