I’ve been looking for simple bridge books for a while now. Most places recommend 故事摩天輪 or other bridge book sets, but when I sampled a few from those series, I felt that some phrases were too difficult and the text was too dense, overwhelming my daughter.

A fairly famous Taiwanese YouTuber and blogger, 早媽, recommended this series 品德故事書 to me. The author 王文華 is a well-known children’s author in Taiwan, but I often don’t like the moralistic tone of his stories, so I was unsure about this series. After getting one set, I noticed the font is larger than usual bridge books and the spacing between sentences and paragraphs is generous. This overall format (which I think is very important but not often discussed) is very suitable for early bridge book readers.

Little Bun chose this one over the Ghibli book 貓的報恩 we were reading. She loves the Ghibli picture book, but the content was way too long for her. She tried to read it twice but still couldn’t finish, so we gave up for now.

She quickly picked up and finished the 品德故事書, which is about a shark that doesn’t have 公德心(mindfulness for the public) and what happens to the shark when he isn’t so nice to everyone surrounded from him.
